I'm so glad I enjoyed this again as a reread! I don't know that I would have picked it up a second time if I hadn't recently read the prequel. Thankfully Beneath the Keep reignited my interest in this world, so I decided to do an entire series reread. This first novel follows Kelsea as she enters adulthood and exits hiding in order to be crowned as Queen. I find Kelsea to be an enjoyable character: she's smart, she's kind, and she values socialism. I only vaguely remember where the rest of the series goes so I'm excited to find out all over again.
