The Resurrectionist

“The Resurrectionist” by Paul T. Scheuring is set in London in the year 1820, during a time when physicians were eager to uncover the secrets of human anatomy and some were even resorting to working with criminals to obtain fresh bodies for study. Enter Job Mowatt, a body snatcher or resurrectionist, who has taken on this risky profession in order to provide for his daughter, Ivy. When he's approached by an anatomist named Percival Quinn and offered payment to dig up the wife of a wealthy man, Job knows that although he is inviting trouble, this could be his chance to secure a better future for his daughter.

Despite the intriguing premise and setting, “The Resurrectionist” failed to capture my attention. I felt that while the story had potential, it never fully came together due to too many characters and a slow pace. However, I did appreciate the beautiful cover art on the book itself.

Overall, “The Resurrectionist” provides an interesting glimpse into 19th century London society but may not be for everyone due to its pacing issues.
