I can't lie and say I'm not interested in the book – the plot, but gosh it is dragging. I tried reading a little bit every day, but even that couldn't keep me interested. If I read more than 2-3% at a time I'd start going “blah, blah, blah” in my head. 2-3% isn't a lot when the book is over 700 pages.
Could I probably push myself through? Yes, but I might not finish it this year!
The thing is, there are good moments. I liked how newts were mentioned... although then they were mentioned too many times within like 20 pages. Side note: I totally want to watch Monty Python and the Holy Grail again.
And that is kinda how the whole book went. Something new happens and is interesting, and then is beaten to death or prolonged to the point where I feel like skipping pages.
I do want to know why Mel is stuck in the past, but not that badly. Also if she is running out of time as she stated, how does she have time to write this long monstrosity??
There is a hint of romance, but it is more of a “everyone says you like each other, so you do!” kinda of thing. So, I was rooting for them, but was holding back until they showed some sign..or something.
I think the diary, report form of this just didn't work. Mel doesn't make herself seem interesting, so I didn't care about her character either.
There are also a few funny moments, but not enough or to my taste to keep me interested.
So sad :(
