I received a finished copy of this book to review as part of the Novel Suspects Insiders Club.
The book is about PI Philip Marlowe, the character originally created by Raymond Chandler in his series published from late 1930s to early 1950s. Denise Mina has taken this character and created her own sequel to the series.
In this book, Marlowe is hired by multimillionaire Chadwick Montgomery to find his missing daughter. Although Chrissie haven't really “disappeared”, she just walked out. In addition to Marlowe, Chadwick Montgomery has also hired Anne Riordan (who used to be Marlowe's associate, but now they are rivals). The whole thing gets very complicated when a body is found at a cheap hotel and Chrissie happens to be the only witness.
I am going to be honest with you, I am a fan of Denise Mina's books. This is the reason I requested this book from the Summer Spotlight Titles. But this is not my type of books. Probably didn't help that I've not read the original series. And I am not going to. I didn't like the characters and I was not invested in their story.
