Are teenage girls really capable of the
self-examination the main characters in
this book display? All four girls are
able to work out problems using very
sophisticated techniques that I'd assumed
most people would know only after years
and years of work in therapy. I truly
hope there are such enlightened sixteen
year old girls out there and that they
meet up with my rather unenlightened
but devilishly handsome teenage sons.
A gentle book, better than the original, imo.
I really enjoyed this book. This story follows the 4 girls who have been best friends since they were born through another summer. They were all going to be home this summer except for Tibby who was taking a summer college class in film development. At the last minute, Bridget found a stack of letters from her grandmother that her dad never showed her or her brother. She wanted to know more about her family so she decided to go to Alabama. She looked a lot different with her blond hair dyed brown so she rented a room there, picked a phony name and started doing odd jobs for her grandmother while slowly learning about her mother and her grandparents. The girls continued to send the pants to each other with letters to continue the tradition they started the year before. Each of the girls had their own challenges to overcome but they all had the support of their Sisters and the “magic” of the pants to help them find the courage to do what they needed to do. One young heart was broken in pieces but she wasn't alone, not for a minute.
