I wanted to like this book, I really did. Unfortunately in the end I couldn't get past the fact that it was such a deviation from The River God. The story isn't all that believable and left me cringing at times (Sir Swims-Alot and his never ending falling into the deadliest of rivers, only to narrowly escape with barely a scratch while other characters died left, right and center).

If I had wanted/expected a cheap thriller I probably would have enjoyed the book for what it was. Having read other works from Mr. Smith though I know that he is capable of more.
