The Tall Book of Nursery Tales

What I am finding that I love in reading so many fairy tales and nursery rhymes lately is the slight changes that really make a story different but again reminiscent and special. This is a lovely book of “Nursery Tales” that has many of what I would characterize as a nursery rhyme. It is full of beautiful illustrations from Aleksey and Olga Ivanov and it is a winner from HarperCollins. The first thing that strikes me is the size. While this is not a lap book per say, it is a tall like one, although narrow and a good size for mama or daddy to hold or a little reader coming along to poke vivid imaginative thought later on in a “re-read”. Each of the stories within these pages are just the right length to comfortably read about two in a sitting and it was a great recommendation that we found from the Sonlight P3/4 core level. While most of the stories I find here to be “nursery rhymes” it does also include Cinderella and The Princess and the Pea which makes it half sit on both titles of nursery rhymes and fairy tales, so in a way the term “nursery tales” does fit it quite nicely. This includes the full list of Little Red Riding Hood, The Country Mouse and the City Mouse, The Gingerbread Man, Cinderella, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Jack and the Beanstalk, Chicken Little, The Tortoise and the Hare, The Little Red Hen, The Ugly Duckling, The Three Little Pigs and The Princess and the Pea. Every page is full of wonderfully colorful illustrations, and I have to admit that I am definitely interested in seeing The Tall Book of Mother Goose after this, also from the same HarperFestival imprint ([b:The Tall Book of Mother Goose 311652 The Tall Book of Mother Goose Aleksey Ivanov https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1348046975l/311652.SY75.jpg 302577]). In it's 5 1/4 X 10 shape, it is different, but definitely memorable. I read once in a review that this is an edition that has stood out for a while, and I can easily see why. In my own opinion, I have come to appreciate the art of [a:Aleksey Ivanov 1109936 Aleksey Ivanov https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png] [a:Olga Ivanov 542760 Olga Ivanov https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png] from the Mia series (Ballerina cat) and I'm delighted to find their drawings so much more so even here. I bought this through Sonlight, as part of a P3/4 curriculum. I would not hesitate to recommend it for purchase. Typed post-op.
