I was quite excited to start reading this one, but something kept me disconnected. There is a lot of emotion and many instances which should have endeared me to the characters, yet I'm not....not completely. I will say that I want to know what will happen to them, I'm just not sure if it is enough to read another book.
I honestly thought the plot would finish up in one book–and I feel like it could have. Some of the story did seem to drag. I think the length of it could have been better spent growing the love between the main characters, and while that is somewhat there, the prophecy made it almost feel too insta-lovey. But seeing them caring more and more was fun.
Some of the magic didn't make too much sense to me, especially since Allete has healed things before. And the infiltration of the castle... and Allete's super protective bodyguard... I felt I had to gloss over these things in order to believe the story.
As for characters I did like Allete as a character, although I liked her sister more ^_^ Torben is protective and lovely, but... missing something? Perhaps the setting kept them both from becoming more.
This is a pretty clean read although I gotta mention the physical and emotional abuse the bad guy inflicts. It can be pretty brutal to read at times, especially with the setting and easy feeling I got from the book.
I would probably recommend this to some, it is a decent book, just didn't work out for me.
