The Wicked + The Divine, Vol. 7: Mothering Invention

The revelations come thick and fast as the story heads towards its conclusion. There are two threads to this volume: the action of the main story and a series of flashbacks. The latter stretch back thousands of years, providing much of the background to what's been happening in the main plot. It has to be said that these include a couple of stretches where either the same thing, or nothing at all, happens repetitively for pages on end. This serves to illustrate the lengthy timespan over which this has been unfolding, and, fortunately, it's a lot less tiresome in a collection like this than it likely was in the individual comics... but other readers may feel differently. In the present day, there are still a few surprising twists here and there, even as the surviving cast continues to dwindle and the consequences of what we've seen in the past play out.
