i literally love everything eric larocca writes. this has become one of my favs from them and it was just so freaking good. Even though some of the stories are only 10ish pages, they all back such a punch and i just am left awed every single time.
In my opinion, the animal POV stories were far stronger than the others. The Bug and Bird story wasn't my cup of tea and I admit that it might have made the last story less effective than it would have been without its presence but then again the dialogue between Marcus and the teenager really seemed stilted to me so...
WOW, this book was amazing!! I have now read all of Eric LaRocca's books and this one is my favorite. This book is described as a “novella in pieces” and it consists of a couple of short stories. I honestly loved them all but if I had to choose a favorite I think it would be the first story, that one is definitely going to stick with me. Eric's writing is as always amazing and he really knows how to get under your skin and make you feel every emotion. They are the only writer whose work makes me feel sick and I love that, I love feeling disgusted while reading horror. I highly recommend this book to horror fans, it was truly phenomenal!
High highs and boring lows. Some stories here are so good that I think they should be published elsewhere so they can stand on their own. Some stories are so nothing that I had to look up reviews to remind myself what even happened. It's like (and yes IK this says a lot about my psyche) some of them are just weaker, less committal Palahniuk stories, and some really take shock horror to a new, queerer height.
