To be honest, I only read the fan-translated version of this book because I wanted to know what happened to Ye Hua and Bai Qian after the end of the 58-episode series, Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms. I suppose it's well worth it to trawl through the endless love triangle between Feng Jiu, Dong Hua and a third female whose name I can't remember.
Fortunately, I like Dong Hua loads more than than Feng Jiu, whom I feel was annoying to the extreme. Talk about not giving up on love - it can be admirable or exasperating (in a Glenn Close, kill the pet rabbit kind of way).
To make things worse, Tang Qi tends to ramble quite a bit and the traditional story structure is just, well, not quite here. If you tell me, Pillow Book is filled with tonnes of fan service - I don't mind it, but since I'm not a fan of Feng Jiu's shenanigans, it was pretty excruciating. Needless to say, your mileage may vary.
