It's the us military saving the world as it all goes to shit and then the tech gets fucked. So, honestly I think this was well crafted, the women were interesting and there were enough of them that it didn't feel like anyone had to be superwomen/frail damsel tokens (the men got to be full humans too, but that is not exceptional). If American exceptionalism annoys you, this may well annoy you but there was definitely an attempt at more nuance than I would have expected - I think the author understands some of the reasons why other people find the us annoying. Overall if you desire some MECHA-SMASH! with a side of geopolitics, this book will provide.
