The logic doesn't make sense. 

Like, yes, how you get the evidence is important. It's in the constitution: no unreasonable search and seizure. Also, you were stalking them and your evidence is a dead rabbit? In a place where people hunt rabbits? I don't understand why the cult is pretending to be Christian but no. 

Also why are the police always shown to be useless? I mean there are a lot of cold cases, but they also solve a lot of cases even decades after the murder. Granted, that usually depends on the body. But it's a tad annoying.
