Junji Ito is the type of writer that straddles the line between extreme horror and utter ridiculousness at all times. I know that his stuff's freaky, and I also know that its often absurd. So I didn't actually go into this expecting to be scared. But there are parts that are legitimately scary, and are written and drawn with a sense of timing that ratchets up the horror. The guy knows what he's doing. He just gets carried away sometimes.
