An Excerpt from [b:The Satyricon 661351 The Satyricon Petronius Arbiter https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1348784440s/661351.jpg 162443], published as a Penguin Little Black Classic.Other reviewers have pointed to the 1965 translation as being dated and awkward. This books certainly reads more awkwardly than it needed to.A satire of a decadent Roman feast - it had the potential to be over the top in its description of the food, the wine, the debauchery, to be colourful and extravagant, bawdy and exciting. For me it fell short of the mark. Perhaps the translation, but I am not sure.
