When it comes to the Star Wars books, I cannot say that I have ever been bored with them up until now. There were just so many different things that I found to be simply average in this novel, that I was tempted to finish it just to see where we would end up. Sadly, this never happened. This book is just writings of mundane military procedure in between big action set pieces from the fifth film. We get to see how the Rebel Alliance recruits its people, how they break camp, how they eat, their command structure and everything...EXCEPT FOR COOL BATTLE SCENES!! When these cool battle scenes do happen, they are boring because I was only 50% of the way done, so I knew the main characters had to survive, and yep, in many cases they somehow do.
Then there is another thing that bothers me. This book is once again made because something was cut out of the main franchise. In this case, the campaign was cut out of the Video Game Star Wars: Battlefront, and this was it's poor substitute. This just annoys me to no end. Why should there be only novels designed to save the story of a cruddy film or game? It should enrich the lore of the films, not be a cheap replacement for something that should have been there in the first place.
But enough of my ranting. I have to give this a two out of five. When the action scenes were happening, it was a fun book. But those scenes were too far in between scenes of boring military stuff for me to care. I'm DNF'ing this one, and I really don't care what my friends think. Stay away from this one at all costs.
