Thank you to the author and R&R Book Tours for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

At the beginning of the year I said I wasn't going to be taking on any new review commitments until I was caught up but when Shannon sent out an email on this book I read the synopsis and couldn't pass up the chance to read it. The synopsis was enough to hook me.

I can't remember if I've ever read a zombie book but I have watched zombie movies/tv shows so I kind of know what I like.

We are immediately thrown into the story which I loved. There wasn't a whole lot of build up to the zombie apocalypse happening. One thing I wish would have been different is how quickly people jumped to it's zombies. They did voice their doubts and said oh it can't be but in the same breath they were like it's zombies. Nothing major just a personal preference and honestly it had no effect on my enjoyment of the overall story.

As mentioned in the synopsis Kate and Frederico are runners. Ultramarathoners which I can't remember the exact distance of an ultramarathon but it's a lot. Anyways when Kate gets a frantic call from her son who is 200+ miles away in college she doesn't hesitate to just run there when cars are no longer options and Frederico goes with her.

This book jumps from the past to the present and each time it jumps to the past it connects it to something that's happening now so it worked but I would have preferred it to just be about the now. Also there's a lot of talk about running understandably and when I realized there was going to be a lot of information on running I was a little worried but it actually worked and I never felt like information overload or like I was getting to many statistics/numbers thrown at me.

One thing that is again another personal preference is I wish it was all about the zombies and not about actual people doing horrible things. I know that if the zombie apocalypse was to ever actually occur that there will be some really horrible people doing horrible things in the name of survival or just because they can but when it comes to zombie books/movies/tv shows I want it to be about the zombies.

So yeah I only had 2 negative things to say about the book which aren't really negatives it's just personal preference. Other than those 2 things I freaking loved this book. It's action packed and bloody with some twists thrown in that I did not see coming. I read this in 2 sittings. Once was at night when my husband was in bed. I was wide awake so I decided to just read but then I ended up staying up until 2am because I couldn't stop reading it.

I will for sure continue this series at some point because I want to know what's in store next for these characters. It gets a 4.5 star rating from me.
