I've been a fan of the Elemental Assassin series for a long time. And even though there have been some ups and downs, Ms Estep has breathed new breath into the series with the introduction to the Circle. After the first several books focusing on Mab Monroe and then serveral books just kinda floundered without any solid direction, The Circle gives Gin a new target... several of them in fact.
I found the setting of this book to be fun, albeit cheesy from time to time. The Old West theme part and luxury hotel was a nice change of pace from Ashland. At least Gin brought along friends and family for something familiar.
Ms Estep upped her game by creating some new fantastically evil villains for Gin to fight and this time it wasn't one ridiculously strong elemental. Gin had to come up with some new ways to fight her foes.
There's a touch of romance and a lot of action. From time to time, it's a little too gory for my tastes, but I tend to skim past the grizzly fight details.
All in all, I think the series is in an upswing and I can't wait to learn more about The Circle.
