Why?

Life's too short for page upon page of info dumping backstory.

So, he finished his dissertation, then went on to his PhD. He traveled, and he was invited to the Minoan ruins on Crete, and then he went to Spain to study the lingering Muslim architecture still woven through the European cities. And on and on for pages.

It really is a shame, because I was immediately interested in this take on ancient Egypt and super excited. But short stories and novellas are already abbreviated things, I don't need important page time taken up with stuff I'd be happier without.
