Waiting for Clark

Waiting for Clark

I've had this sitting and queued up forever and today seemed like a good day to dive in and I'm happy I did.

The is a sweet friends to lovers (but really they were always in love) story, with a dollop of hurt-comfort and a big dose of gaming and superhero geekdom. Two former college roommates and friends who parted five years ago to live post-college lives are reunited in Portland at a ComicCon type convention. If you're a gamer or even a casual fan of the Superhero universe this is like a warm cup of chocolate on a winter's night.

Bryce is the grown up boy with all the toys who has nonetheless suffered more than his fair share of loss and when Clark, the boy, now man, he's loved since college comes back to Portland Bryce must decide whether to makes his walls higher or take a leap and see if they can fly together.

I very much enjoyed the world inhabited by these guys and the friends in the Nerd Army. Without giving anything away I'll also say that I liked how in the bedroom the roles were not what one would boringly expect.

Bryce is that guy you want to crush in a hug and let him know that it's okay to let go sometimes, to not be in control but I sometimes also wanted to slap him à la Cher in Moonstruck. On the other hand I loved Clark. Loved his quirky mind, his curiosity, generosity and bravery.

The ending is also the exact combination of sweet and fun. Perfect.
