Walking Backwards
I don't love the idea of stacking multiple negative reviews on the same day, but dammit if this wasn't a disappointment too.
I'm afraid the few poems that resonated with me where vastly outnumbered by those which read like stream of consciousness journal entries shoe-horned into the format of blank verse.
No surprise then that it's the shorter or more broken up ones that speak plainer that I preferred.
Koethe does make some pretty word pictures but I was often lost. Lot of vague dismay about getting older, trades heavy on memory/nostalgia, and there's a fair amount of the ‘I'm a truth seeker which means I'm cranky/sad about everything' vibe.
At least my non-fiction reading is going well?! 🤷🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️
Resonated (couldn't call faves):
Below the Coast
In the Park
What the Stars Meant
Morning in America
