Sigh. When I requested this book from NetGalley, it had the “Romance, Sci Fi & Fantasy” tags. Well, that was OK, so did Sleeper Protocol and that was a good book, so I ignored the Romance tag. Big mistake.

I'm conflicted over the book. The story sets off with a bang, gets a little slow, then speeds up - a lot. Unfortunately the romance elements start also seeping in almost immediately. By the end of the book it was lurid and graphic and put me off, it's just not something I'm interested in reading.

The relationships that swiftly developed between humans and their blue-skinned alien counterparts seemed completely unrealistic. I didn't find the characters to be that nuanced; they seemed to be pretty flat and single sided - sadistic bad guy, noble hero, and so on.

I read the book, and I enjoyed the story (when it wasn't stopping dead for the “romance”), but it's unlikely I'll read other books in the series.
