I wanted to like this...I really, really did–the concept is great, I've just read [a:Kelly McCullough 492365 Kelly McCullough http://www.goodreads.com/images/nophoto/nophoto-M-50x66.jpg]'s [b:Broken Blade 11018854 Broken Blade Kelly McCullough http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1327992075s/11018854.jpg 15938166] and thought that was a lot of fun. But...I just couldn't “get” the magic system–I sort of understand it, but not enough to get everything from the book I should. And I absolutely know that could be a problem with me, not McCullough. But I don't think it's my problem, I think he could've done a far better job explaining it all.That said, I liked the characters, I liked the plot, and I'll likely read book #2 pretty soon. But that's more to do with curiosity about a couple of the characters and wondering if McCullough does a better job describing the magic system so his readers can see what he sees.
