Books with secret societies in them are like crack for me. So you can just imagine how excited I was to read this one. Alas, it was just an OK read. I gave it an extra star for originality, as the plot had a lot of potential for sure. However, I wanted more about the secret society, and the murder. We spend a good portion of this book on school dynamics, and a pointless love like triangle. I also found the writing to be choppy. The pace was super slow, and none of the characters were particularly likable (apart from a couple of Emily's friends). Wolf's indecisiveness drove me batty, and Emily's character was ALL over the place. Weak and snivelling one minute, then bitchy and full of attitude the next. Last, it was all wrapped up in a rushed ending I would be hard pressed to even call a happy for now.
SIDE NOTE: This didn't affect my rating at all since this was an ARC and not the final copy, but this book had some glaring errors. From the heroine's changing hair and eye color, too bad formatting which made it impossible for me to read any of the text messages. I usually won't comment on that type of thing, because...ARC. But the formatting issue especially made this a bit of a chore to get through.
