See allYet another, slow, un-engaging, not fun to read, verse novel bogged down by identity politics. I'm so sick of this! I absolutely love the idea behind verse novels, so why are they never fun and exciting?! When I read I want to escape reality – I can't be the only one! If I want a depressing story about abuse, sexual, drug, race or otherwise I'll watch the news. All I want is an exciting, fun, imaginative verse novel that's engaging to read. A Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, or Hunger Games kind of story told in verse! Surely it's not that hard! Verse is able to better capture different aspects of a story than prose. So why?
Stunning & exquisite! A story that grabs you from start to finish, and doesn't let go even after you finish! The writing in particular is artistically complex and beautiful! As a poet, I fell in love with C.K. Miller's use of prose and the English language. There's just something addicting about the voice and rhythm of this book. The story by itself would be a winner, but combined with the masterful writing, this need to be on your shelf now! Can't recommend this book enough, and Book 2 is already in my queue! I'm so excited to see what happens next in this world that Book 2 jumped the line of my TBR list! Definitely gonna start it this week! Do yourself a favor and buy this book!
Once again, it's a knock out tale from E.S. Barrison! Yet again we return to the world of The Mist Keepers Apprentice, this time from a different perspective. The world is familiar, yet alien, and the characters you've grown to love are no where to be found. In their place we find a new cast of unique faces, each with their own quirks, traumas, and ambitions. Story telling may be illegal in this book, but thankfully it's not in real life. Which means you have no excuse not to check out this awesome book! I'm truly excited to see what's next from Miss Barrison!
This is an ARC Review, all opinions are solely my own.
Not a bad read! As an an aspiring author myself, and a fellow verse novelist, I can truly appreciate the concept of mixing all these different verse types together! Very well written! I'll will definitely be keeping an eye on Mr. Alexander in the future.
UPDATE: I am now a Self-Published Indie Author who also writes verse novels/Verse Thrillers. Mine are less slice of life and more fun, and full of magic, and excitement! One's that allow the reader to escape reality, and enjoy the story. So far everyone that reads them really likes them. If you're looking for a more magical take in a Verse novel I recommend you check out my books on amazon. I promise you won't be disappointed!
