Chabon has a wonderful writer’s voice. That said, this one is not my favorite of his. I thought the story was nice but the characters didn’t hold me. Clearly they held someone. It did win the Pulitzer.
When I first read this I asked myself why I was getting involved with a 600 (almost 700) page detective story? Who’s got that kind of time? Turns out, it was worth it. This is one hell of a read.
Amanda is one of the hardest working writers I know. She throws herself into her projects. This was a wonderful story. I love her writer’s voice and I look forward to her future work.
This was such a difficult book to read and I’m really disappointed I had to write that. I want to sit down with the author and ask what exactly was she trying to do?
