Well, It is starting to get interesting, this feels like Harry Potter only the horror version, unlike Mr. Potter, who had so many many friends, Thomas doesn't have that much, only his mother and the Spook, but what a mother!!!!
Good things about the book, expansion of the Delaney world, earlier ghosts, witches and boggarts, now we have the Bane, a tougher, more malevolent entity, more glimpses of Mr. Gregory's bygone days and yesteryears, origin of Mister and Missus Ward and of course, we see how Thomas begins to grow!!!!
More Alice!!!! Began she is to the Dark Side!!!
Niko and Cal Leandros, brothers on the run, actually it's always Niko who's running for the sake of Cal, well the book might not be one of the best, I've read so far, what with Cal's wisecracking and all these watching over your shoulder stuff.....anyway the good??? Ummmmmm hard to say, at least it left a dent on the couch/bed i was sitting/lying/whatever.....constant reminiscing about their past.....the bad???? Constant reminiscing, hey I think I'm starting to think like Cal.......monster/human......oh well here's to you other folks.....good luck in reading this one!!!!
Now where is Niko??? Oh sorry, I don't have a brother named Niko, I'm not even an american!!!![no disrespect to all you guys!!!]
Hate and Love, such simple concepts but it drives anyone or anything to do the near impossible, but on a fantasy setting, it can create Gods or in this case a God!!
Nagash once a simple hierophant, smitten or in this case lusting for his sister in law, found a way to become something else: a lich , gaining more power from becoming an undead, he was able to even challenge his gods and prevail but alas as in every realm/world/universe, his undoing was a mere mortal, a human with the same greed as his but without love or hate!!!!
Second book, again Nagash sought another way to obtain power to destroy those whom he felt betrayed him and found it in a mystical green stone that fell to their world from the heavens, again he almost succeeded but this time he was held back by an entire army of rats or skaven in this world, negotiating with the rats he was preparing for........
Third book, here we meet another of the characters that makes this world interesting, a queen, Neferata of Lahmia, who at first wanted nothing more but to make her nation the strongest, sensing that it was not
to be also gave in to her love of her nation and hatred against those that would pull her down, and bbecame its first female vampire(just a guess), ruling it and furthering her reach, and then came the last oof the characters who I felt had this 2 basic emotion and made this novel a truly good read Alcadizzar, wwhile still in his mother's womb, receive Neferata's blood and became something else, a
human that brought Neferata's rule down and also succeeded in repulsing Nagash's attack.
In the end Alcadizzar was also brought low by this two basic emotion, love for his family enabled Nagash to completely eradicate everything except him, Alcadizzar's hatred of Nagash was able to do what no one was able to: Stop Nagash completely!!! THE END!??????
Roman adventure with a different brand of mysticism, as of now what drew me to this novel is....... when in Rome, just read, be decadent and lots of gratuitous S E X, even with the third reason omitted, who doesn't love the Romans one of the most respected culture, the best in warfare(legionnaires), hope I'm spelling it correctly, brilliant minds/horrendous killers.......what else??? Oh the story.....amidst my ramblings is the story.
Honestly I am having second thoughts to this series, it lacks something......uuuummm maybe I need more of that roast pork with sausages disguised as it's innards!!!!!! If you like your Roman history albeit with a twist, pick up this book........have to remember, it is just starting!!!!
War......there are no winners, just losers and a lot of dead bodies, For almost two decades or more, I have finally read book 3 of Mr. Rowley's wonderful series, first time I read this, it really set itself apart, for who doesn't love Dragons, I mean THEY are the last line of defense against any hero team be it D&D, Greyhawk, Dragonlance(where the aforementioned creatures are strongest).
In his world, there are two dragon types wyvern or flightless ones and the natural ones or wild dragons, aside from these, this world is almost under the thumb of the Masters of Padmasa and those against them are the legions of the Argonath and their Great Witches......without giving much away, the whole series revolves around Relkin and his battledragon Bazil Broketail......
As i've said this is the 3rd book and there's 4 more.....hopefully it doesn't take me 2 decades or more to finish the whole series
Book Two of the series, what can I say well story progression, after talking to the Dalriss and communicating with their first Xenophobe, It's now Katya's turn to speak to one......story wise everything is becoming more interesting....and we now have a rebellion.......can't wait to see if they are able to unite the xenophobe's tech with human ingenuity........
As with all books that comes from the Black Library, you get a vague description of an Adeptus Astartes chapter, then the story runs.....
In this case the White Scars chapter led by Ko'sarro Master of the hunt, and the opponent Voldorious, it isn't a fast pace story, but a good story nonetheless, the reason for hunting Voldorious, where the protagonist went, and the final curtain at Quintus....ummmmm can't forget about the other chapter in this story the Raven Guard...
I guess I'll recommend this to the other Warhammer readers.........
I want to say something nice, but all I get is me scratching my head at this, it's supposed to be the 3rd book where all my questions are to be answered, and yet it irks me, ummmmm my ebook says 287 pages, but the one in goodreads says 367, so I maybe just maybe, there were some resolutions from the missing pages
Book Two of the Deepgate Codex, ahhhh......more angels and the relationship to each other becomes clearer, Ayen Goddess of Heaven warred with Iril, resulting in his shattered body thrown to earth and landed in Hell, Iril wasn't alone when he challenged Ayen, he was accompanied by his sons, most notable among them, Rhys, Cospinol, Ulcis, Hasp and others, each god coming out of the war lessened in power.
Book 2 was about the remaining Gods plight after challenging and losing to Ayen, their machinations to get back their lost powers, also here we see the new heir to the throne of hell Menoa, his plans, and his overwhelming victory against the shattered gods, further stories of Dill, Rachel and some new characters namely John Anchor, Cospinol's champion, the capture of carnival, who killed his own father Ulcis.......a thaumaturge by the name of Mina Greene, An engineer of the king of hell, Harper, and my new favorite character, the youngest of the gods, Hasp.
Again, the relationship between characters was as muddled as the first book, but the story Was'nt as slow , now I'm really eager to read the last book.......where's Devon????
The first ummmmm what 200+ pages was sooooooo slow, here the author starts to introduce his characters (Dill the last of the battle archons, this world's version of an angel, Rachel Hael, spine with a heart, the author's version of an assassin, Carnival a bad angel, and my favorite of the lot Devon the villain, I am not sure if he is the main villain but this is just the first book.
Ok, the story Iril the despot goddess of this realm, was challenged by her son Ulcis, although Ulcis won, he was struck down, hence the big hole where the city of Deepgate is located, in honor of their fallen god, the people sacrifice their dead to enable Ulcis to keep Iril at bay.......and in comes the aforementioned characters......
Angel Doloriel, sighhhhhhh.......never thought you can have an immortal(in a meat suit)be as boring as this main character, finishing this one just gave me more questions, I love stories like this(angels, demons and/or gods of any pantheon), ahhhhhh........I'm obviously reflecting the character's attitude, I'm perplexed, confused and generally bored......there I said it.
Angels and demons playing lawyers.....gotta love that part but aside from that......this book just didn't live up to my expectations, anyway two more books of this type, I hope it becomes better.....hey like what the Christian God did when He failed on His first children, He created another and another until....well you know how that went.......
