It was fascinating to learn about the impetus of the Christian fundamentalist injection into politics. Astonishing how little the rhetoric from religious fanatics and conservatives has changed. I thoroughly enjoyed the chapters about the fight over sex education and Roe v. Wade.
A quote from the book I enjoyed:
“This issue is not when does life begin in the womb but rather where does freedom of choice and conscience end in society? A more important question than whether feticide is homicide may be whether any one group may impose its moral and religious beliefs by legal sanction upon all society.” - Howard R. Moody
I enjoyed the concept of the story and the prose was well-done at times. I found myself getting a little bored reading this but I kept going because I wanted to know what was going to happen to Cassie in the end (which is something), but then nothing happened. It just ended. I wish Cassie's character had been more complex. Basically all we got from her is that she is depressed, but nothing very meaningful about who she is or who she once was. I feel like this book could have been deeper or more profound somehow but ultimately it was kinda corny and surface-level.
