Amazing! Spectacular! I've been missing out! I can believe it! Celaena Sardothien is really...! And she's actually...! You didn't think I was actually going to tell you did you? You have to read it for yourself, silly! I promise you won't regret it, not one bit. I can't wait to read the rest of the series. Starting book 3, Heir of Fire, right now! Bye!
Love it! Mystery, Suspense, Romance, and Fantasy all in one! I am so inspired by the perseverance and courage that “Lillian” showed throughout the whole book. She is definitely one of my favorite heroines. I love how she's rebellious, but not overly so; and cares about her appearance, but isn't like those “pompous buffoons” in the court. All-in-all, Celaena Sardothien is a wonderful role model for young woman today (aside from the killing part, of course). She doesn't give up even when it seems like it's the end. She's smart and funny and enjoys teasing others. I can't say enough about her, she's just awesome.
Thank you Sarah J. Maas for giving me a character to relate to, a character that leaps out of the page and reminds me that life has its many ups and downs but I can still smile and laugh through it all.
I know who I am and “I will it be afraid.”
P. S. I love the name Nehemia gave Celaena so much it's going to be part of my pen name! Yes!
I. Loved. This. Book. Or would it be these stories? Doesn't matter, I loved it.
At first, it was just adventure, then it got to these heart-touching parts... When he died... and Celaena... I almost cried. I really did. It was just so heart-touching. The characters in this book were wonderful. The stories true works of art. I loved how they were all connected but so short. I would re-read this over and over again. I'm so happy that I have the entire series and can indulge myself in reading more about Celaena Sardothien, one of my new favorite female protagonists. Thank you Maas, thank you.
I read this in two days, but I easily could've finished it in one. It was a book that instantly drew me in and then left me hanging with a you've-got-to-be-joking-the-next-book-better-be-available expression on my face.
Ravenlee Wilowwynter is that girl that I would immediately befriend and reach out to because I know she needs a friend who would love her unconditionally. I loved her sarcasm and dry humor. I absolutely love her name and the way Hunter described it's meaning. My heart went out to Raven because of everything she went through (and we don't even know everything yet) and everything she has to go through. Her uncle is... a jerk. I'd say a lot worse but I'm not supposed to curse so... but he's a real horrific jerk. Her aunt is... annoying. I'd probably react the same way Raven did to her. Dixie May, Raven's cousin, is a real spoiled brat. I immediately disliked her, like within two sentences of Raven talking about her.
Hunter Hathingford and his friends Jax and Zay (talk about those names! Genius Jessica, I love ‘em) are the type of boys I'd want to know and help. Their families... sounds real... again, no cursing but seriously anyone who's read this book probably knows what I want to say about the families in this book. They really suck. The kids go through so much... crap. The way Raven's uncle treated her, he literally cut her! He cut words into her skin! What kind of a sick psycho is this “sheriff”? He's such a... jerk (you know what I really, really, really want to say).
I am really curious to see what this series will hold for me and I can't wait to get my hands on the next book, and the next, and the next, and... all of them, I want all of them.
This is one of my absolute favorite series of this year! I'd recommend this to anyone who loves adventure, steampunk, a bit of mystery, a little crude humor, and mistaken criminals trying to clear their name. I enjoyed this collection so much and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series. You can't go wrong with these books.
(This is my first real book review so forgive me if it isn't very detailed and/or helpful)
I love Ted Dekker's work! This book made me revisit some of Jesus' teaching in the Bible and look at it from the perspective of someone yearning for unconditional love like Christ Jesus'.
This book is about a young woman named Maviah who is shunned as an illegitimate daughter of the Bedouin sheikh. She is constantly reminded that she is nothing and no one loves her nor cares for her. But when her people are attacked by enemies, her father calls on her to journey across the unforgiving desert with two of his most trusted warriors, Saba and Judah, to ask for Rome's aid. Throughout the journey Maviah continues to doubt herself, until she meets Yeshua and He begins to change her mind. But going to Rome doesn't even begin to solve Maviah's problem and she ends up in even more danger and has to make choices that could be the death of her, Saba, and Judah.
Throughout the book I am draw to Maviah and the inner battle she constantly fights in. As someone who also struggles with self-confidence and self-worth, I could relate to Maviah (even though I haven't been through anything even close to what she went through). I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the next one.
READ THIS BEFORE READING!!!! THIS BOOK IS NOT FOR CHILDREN OR THOSE WHO ARE OBLIVIOUS TO SATANIC RITUALS!!!!
I was not spiritually ready for this book. Some of the scenes are very... unguarded. One wife was trying to get her husband to have sex with her and he wouldn't so she got mad. One poor girl's father is a Satanist who rapes her all the time (though so far, there are no scenes with that) and there's a Satanic ceremony that really disturbed me. The poor girl got drugged, stripped, and laid on an altar. Then Satanic priests drank goat's blood mixed with their's and everyone striped and sat around like it was a party. Don't get me wrong, this book is an awesome view on spiritual warfare that will really make you think about your Christian life or lack thereof; however, I would not recommend this for the faint of heart. I will continue reading this book when I am ready for that stuff, but as of now, I can't.
A classic book for Christians. I've reread this book so many times, I'm not even sure how many. I'll probably read it again sometime in the future.
Busy, busy, busy, not to mention the other books I need to read for assignments. I will pick it back up sometime later.
And to think I thought the story was over (I'm not sure how I got that impression...). Boy, I was wrong! Burroughs has done it again! He has driven me into countless hours of procrastination (if you call reading procrastinating that is)
Oh. Wow. Just. Wow. I absolutely love this series! This story just grips you and stays with you forever. I really don't like re-reading books but I have re-read these books so many times and I love it each and every time! I can't say enough about this series, just wow. I love it so much
I love this series! New factors and angels, bigger plot, and a lot more chaos! Leda Pandora, the Angel of Chaos, Angel of Hope, and Angel of the People is going to change the whole universe, I just know it!
I could not wait to read this one! Every minute there was an “oh no!” moment and I couldn't help thinking “let John Carter finally have his princess, you idiots! Don't you know nothing will stop him?!” Absolutely love the whole series
I love crazy, sarcastic, women who are determined! Probably my favorite character types ever! And Leda Pierce does not disappoint, nah uh.
There was something about the book that seemed a little... off, but I'm not sure what. I'm talking about the way it was written off, like it was a bit cliche or something, IDK. I did see a few comments that were talking about how the characters were weak or a ripoff of the Guild Hunter series, but I didn't pay much attention to that in the book. I just wanted a fun read that kept my attention and this one did so that's that. Other than that, I can't wait to see what's going to happen!
P.S. I did read the book descriptions for most if the series (yup, I do that sometimes) so I do know where some of this is going; but I don't know how they get there and everything in between so this is still going to be a fun ride!
