The First Thousand Trees

Henryk's and Reid's stories both end in this final, gut wretching novella.

I liked most of the people of Sprucedown. Even Dane grew on me.

The conflict was a lot more violent than I was expecting but that's a good thing; Premee seems to have zero issues exposing readers to the brutality of living in a lawless, "uncivilized" land. No one is spared from the harsh reality of living while trying to make a safe home in a dangerous world.

Not even the children.

Good job Premee, I enjoyed this story and the trilogy overall!

We Speak Through the Mountain

I enjoyed everything about this novella till the very end. It's basically a cliffhanger but the next book isn't about Reid so I am doubtful we'll get proper closure with her story. Perhaps the author did that intentionally; I'm not sure. Just not a fan of ending a story so abruptly.

Everything else was great. I loved learning about the University, the people and their culture. Reid definitely behaved like a 19 year old with a chip on her shoulder, which felt very realistic. The mental image of the Cad just sleeping directly under her skin is still stuck in my head.
