Read the first short story and it didn't hook me, so I moved on.
Too slow a burn for this guy.
Meant to read a different novel of the same title. Decided to give it a try, but was unable to really get into it.
Hit the halfway point and kot too drawn in. Felt like it would be more of the same so I put it down and moved on.
I was unable to handle the use of the made up language in the book.
Couldn't get into the story.
The character development was too complex for myself. Had a hard time trying to keep track of who was who.
Unable to get into the book. Feels slow and I have a hard time with UK slang. Just not for me.
Poor writing quality. Didn't enjoy the prose.
Felt too slow, was very bored.
DNF at 16%. I don't feel it's fair to put a star rating on a book I haven't completed, but this one just wasn't for me. I was having a really hard time seeing why people found this impossible to put down. The pacing felt slow, and the dialogue is packed with corny Southern euphemisms that just kept pulling me out of the story. On top of that, as someone with a military background, seeing basic tactical and procedural errors right out of the gate—like cops calling a magazine a “clip” or saying “repeat” on the radio instead of “I say again”—were huge immersion breakers for me. It might be a great slow-burn mystery for some, but I prefer a much faster pace and tighter procedural accuracy.
Not my jam
The procedural drag killed it for me.
Too challenging for me to follow.
It was just absurd ramblings of an old man. It felt like it was going to continue to be absurd ramblings of an old man. So I dropped it and moved on with life.
