Un des premiers romans « mondains » que j'ai lu de mon plein gré y'a longtemps. J'en garde plutôt un bon souvenir, certains passages m'avaient marqué et je m'en souviens encore plus de 10 ans après

Je ne m'attendais à pas grand chose en ouvrant ce livre mais je dois dire que j'ai été très positivement surpris par cet ouvrage de vulgarisation, écrit par un journaliste scientifique avec une grande rigueur et surtout une compréhension saine (et donc rare) de l'épistémologie des sciences du vivant. Le propos est plutôt prudent et étayé, même quand l'auteur énonce ce qu'il semble être à première vue des banalités. Il n'a pas peur de se reposer sur d'obscurs schema de pavés de biochimie bien connus des étudiants en biologie pour démontrer (ou démonter !) certaines allégations. Quand on est habitué au « journalisme scientifique » français, du Monde et d'autres torchons du même acabit, ça fait tout drôle de ressortir d'un tel ouvrage aussi satisfait.

Je pense toutefois qu'il est un petit peu trop long, et un petit peu trop redondant. Si vous êtes le genre de lecteur qui prenez des notes et qui vous reposez sur celles-ci plutôt qu'une répétition constante des points clefs au fil du texte comme outil de mémorisation, vous risquez d'être un peu agacé par moment.

I don't really know what to say about this book after finishing it. I expected certains things from the first pages and it delivered exactly that, nothing less, nothing more… I can't say it is bad, but, I don't know… A little bit boring maybe ? It may be a question of sensibility and life experience after all, maybe this book will be a game changer for some readers.

Sunrise on the Reaping is the first Hunger Games book I read. I thought it would be fun to read it in parallel of re-watching the Hunger Games movies, which I liked but cannot say I'm fond of.

I enjoyed it thoroughly, Suzanne Collins style convey the stress, despair and dramatic intensity of the protagonist tribulations perfectly. The overall atmosphere is both one of absurdity and fatality, and it's not hard to be moved by the tragic stories of the characters.

The path of Haymitch is… quite weird. Its hard to understand some choices he made in the novel, given what is at stakes and his anticipation of the outcome.

The last part of the book is moving, but somehow left me with an insatisfaction of some sort, and not a good one. I found this part quite precipitated and more rushed than the game part. I actually expected more refinement in poor ol' Haymitch inflicted suffering.

The problem is, this is, well, it's the same old Hunger Games book recipee, and it's quite conservative. I think I would have appreciated more something in the same setting, but covering others things than the Hunger Games from the perspective of the tributes, or at least giving us a little something in this matter, as the Ballad do.

How is the live of those people in the Capitol ? What happened during the first rebellion ? Why not the POV of a gamemaker ? Is there something, maybe some other nations outside of Panem ?

Probably does not worth your reading time unless you're a samouraï interested in the correct way to cut a head off.
