Wow, this was a very impactful book for me. The characters felt so real and there is so much bottled up emotion in them. I really had a hard time putting it down.
I liked how the characters were strong and overcame major adversity but it also seems so senseless. A part of me rages and their poor choices and a part of me weeps for their pain and hardships.
This book could certainly be disturbing from many readers.

Not really comparable to the movie. This actually may be a case in which I prefer the movie.
Pros:
This was really well written and gripping. I read well past my bedtime.
I'm impressed by it's scientific discussion especially for it's time (1960's).
Excellent world-building and just enough horror for my taste but not too much.
This book did bring me to the edge of tear and could be very moving in some parts
Cons:
I did not like the main character. Maybe he supposed to be unlikeable?
I hated the way the author discussed lust and sex. I really have a hard time with the discussion that the main character was so sexually deprived he was tempted to have sex with the living dead.
Overall I was not comfortable with the discussion of women they are not treated well or regarded well through the book. There was too much emphasis on women's bodies and sex.

I have complex feelings about this book.
Pros: Excellent writing, and world building. Good science discussion for it's time. I found the desire to have a pet, and the scarcity both funny and sad.
Cons: I didn't find the characters very likeable.
(Rant) The sci-fi trope of men wanting to have sex with android women is just disturbing to me...
This book is so... long. I find it hard to explain. The plot is excellent and the tangents and digressive parts are also great but they are hard to experience together and that's what makes this book so darn long.
In terms of the plot I do not love ending, but the journey is so emotional and well written.
The tangents were sort of a slog to read through but there are some very interesting points and I can see why they are influential.
