I found this very creepy at times but a great sci-fi read. I'm on pins an needles to find out what happens in the next book.

A dark book about a magical school that is trying to kill its students.

Cons:
An awkward sex scene I don't think is good for young readers
There are some repetitive tired tropes

I loved the setting, the world-building, and the culture. I felt the romance had too much emphasis and it took over the story that could have been an excellent adventure.

I didn't realize what a funny book this would be. My favorite character is George darling Wendy Michael and John's father he is hilarious. I also enjoyed Nana's character. This is such an imaginative story.

I read this book for Jane-Austen-July. This book is discussed in Mansfield Park. It's fun to be able to recognize the play and what it is about.

A very fun story full of folklore and history. It's fine YA fairytale.

Beautifully told and emotional

I found this story very dark and heart breaking. I was very well written I just didn't enjoy the plot or storyline.

I was surprised to find this is more of a satire. The title makes it sound so serious. I didn't like the way women were portrayed , but I realize that is a cultural issue and due to the time period it was written for.

This book is like taking with my best friend.

I couldn't seem to put this book down. It is very imaginative and captivating. The world-building and magic are excellent. Robin Hobb does excellent character work. You really hate the bad guys but also have sympathy for them. No one is all bad or all good in these books.

I do caution that there is a lot of violence, sexual assault and it is very dark.

I did not like this book as much as Out of a Silent Planet. The World building and imagination is incredible. I still struggled to connect with the characters or to care about their situation. It reads more like a mythological story. I have conflicted feelings about the prevention of the fall of man. It's sort of a story about what would have happened if Adam and Eve would never have been kicked out of the garden of Eden this is not an easy question and bears some reflecting.

Wow this was such an interesting story. It really was so very slow I almost quit it. There's so much imagination at potential symbolism in the story similar to Lewis' other stories

This is a very difficult book to read. Some of the content is very disturbing and difficult to face. It's also difficult to read due to the made up language that is used in it. The addition I read had an Glossary in the back it was pivotal and understanding the story. I've heard the movie is pretty shocking and terrible and leaves out the most important part which is the very last chapter of the book.
