‘Bone of My Bone’ feels like stepping into a crumbling gothic nightmare where every hallway whispers secrets and every page carries a quiet sense of dread. Bone of My Bone by Johana van Veen slowly pulls the reader into a dark and suffocating atmosphere filled with obsession, decay, and family wounds that never truly healed.
The strongest part of this story is undoubtedly its atmosphere. The writing is vivid, haunting, and beautifully unsettling, creating a constant feeling that something terrible is lurking just beneath the surface. The house itself almost becomes a character, alive with grief and memories that cling to every room. The gothic elements are rich and immersive, and the psychological tension grows stronger with every chapter.
The pacing, however, feels uneven at times. Some sections are incredibly gripping and emotionally sharp, while others move a little too slowly, causing the tension to lose momentum here and there. A few scenes also felt repetitive in their emotional intensity, which slightly weakened the impact of the darker revelations later in the story.
Still, the psychological depth and eerie atmosphere make this an unforgettable reading experience for gothic horror lovers. It is the kind of story that crawls under the skin slowly rather than relying on constant shocks. The ending leaves behind an unsettling emptiness that lingers long after the final page.
