I read the Hebrew version of The Escape Artist by Jonathan Freedland, translated by Tami Zer (2024).

What I didn't like about the book:
1. Found inaccuracies in some of the dates of several events. For example, it states that the extermination of Jews in Chelmano started in 1942, but it started a year earlier. another example was that the Birkenau started working in May 1942, when in fact it started working two months earlier.
- not sure if these inaccuracies appeared in the original version or a result of the translation to Hebrew but when you read a book about history, these kind of inaccuracies ruin your trust in the book.
2. I felt the book focused too much on Vrba, while a much bigger question remained to be explored: if the Jews of Hungary had learned about their fate from the Vrba-Wetzler report in time, it might have resulted in fewer victims. this topic is indeed explored in several pages at the end of the book, but, given this issue occupied Vrba during his life, it was worth adding more research and information about it to the book, in addition to the fascinating life story of Vrba himself.

What I liked about the book
1. its an easy read and its told in a fascinating way. I didn't know much about Vrba, besides the fact he escaped Auschwitz.
2. it's a good Segway to reading Vrba's own memoir and other escapees stories. I definitely want to read more about this topic.
3. returning to my second point in what I didn't like, it does raise questions about how Rezső Kasztner dealt with warning the Jewish Hungarian community about what was to come, given he had a copy of the Vrba-Wetzler report. Again, this should've have been explored fuhrer but I get it that this book is about a person more than about event and controversial
4. I didn't feel like Vrba was portrayed in the book has a hero of sorts and the book does highlights the negative sides of his personality. This makes the story more real to me.
5. its another important book about a prominent character in the history of the Holocaust, that we Israelis seldom learn about during our time at school. Vrba joins Marek Edelman and others who had a story to tell, but because they were not Zionists or even opposed Zionism, they are not part of the Israeli narrative of the holocaust.

It is so easy To give this book a bad feedback. Just from the title you get a feeling that. This is something very popish. And from the fact that the author has other books in this series, it makes you think that this will be. A very shallow book. In fact, this book has helped me because I was looking for a one stop shop to get information About improving my health.

I wasn't sure what was wrong with me, but I felt tired and unhappy and I knew that this has something to do with what I'm eating, how I am, I'm sleeping and And that I was not Exercising enough.

Simply put. This book can help you have all your information in one place, and the author claims it's backed by articles and scientific experiments. I implemented only a few of the authors. Suggestions. But. That was good enough for me to have even the smallest improvement in my general health careTo have even the smallest improvement in my general Well-being.

So if you're looking for a small improvement, you'll find here. Suggestions that can help you get there, but don't anticipate that you will get some magic recipe here, how to become less tired or anything of this sort. For a 8 hour listen that was light enough for me. I recommend this audiobook.

I didn't finish the book,. Couldn't get halfway. The story is boring, nothing interesting ever happens. There's nothing cool in any of the characters and I found myself forcing myself to continue read just because it is considered a “classic”. Finally had the courage to stop and I'm glad others here feel the same.
