The Cinnamon Bun Book Store

Didn't really liked this one because

A. This book has nothing to do with the fall. It's a summer story.

B. Too spicy,not cosy enough.

C. What kind of dad would do that?

Dirty Little Secrets

Wrote a review for

A neighbour has been dead in her house for three months and no one has noticed. You follow the story through the eyes of six different people who speak in the present tense and who could all be suspects. The victim then tells her story in the past tense. You also follow the police investigation closely, and the developing relationship between Emma and Frank was another plus point. Anyone could have killed her, so it's a real whodunit story.

The story had my attention from the beginning, but as it progressed, I found myself missing some kind of plot twist. I didn't expect the ending, so that's always good :)

The only thing I don't understand is the cover of this book. What does the story have to do with a swimming pool? That cover makes no sense.

The Pumpkin Spice Café

This story was an easy read. I read the book for the Gilmore Girls/Hallmark/fall vibe, and it did not dissapoint. People who say that the two main characters have mental health issues and that they both need to see a psychologist have experienced very little adversity in their own lives. Both have been through something that has changed them profoundly. This does not mean that they are overreacting or just need to get over it. Fear of abandonment is a real fear. The fear of wanting to belong is a real fear. I think the author has managed to fit this beautifully into a cosy, atmospheric story.

I don't normally read stories like this, but even I can detach myself from the genre to appreciate the story.

The Wives

I did not anticipate this story at all. To be honest, my expectations were low. I thought it would be a quick read with some light entertainment. I was correct about the first part, but the story took a completely different turn.

I kept guessing where the story was going. I had four different versions of the plot and was wrong four times. The actual story was therefore really surprising and captivating. I finished the book in a few days, so that says it all.

What Have You Done?

Wrote a review for

The story was quite exciting at the beginning. The writing style made the pace and reading style of the story quite unique. You read short chapters and the narrator changed with each chapter. The narrators were all people who knew the victim. This gave you a confused view of the events, which contributed to a more realistic view of a murder story within a village.

After a while, the story slowed down a bit. Some chapters contributed little. The plot was somewhat predictable. I didn't really understand the part about the ghosts/after life and didn't see the added value of it.
