3.5/5 stars
Urghh this is a hard book to rate. I loved almost everything about this book, especially the main character. I loved her relationship with her brother. I loved how she cared about herself and the people around her. I also loved how personal this book fel. I can tell writing this probably meant soooo much for Tahereh and that is incredibly special.
But I'm starting to think Tahereh Mafi's writing isn't for me. I didn't love her writing style in Shatter Me and I didn't love it here. I found the romance to be rushed and instalovely. The dialouge to be stiff and repetitive.
I still haven't written my review for this book (because I'm over 40 reviews behind oops), and I'll probably never will. I read this book a month ago, and I literally remember almost nothing that happened. And the things that I do remember, I don't remember how they played into the plot.
The only thing I got out of this story is that the sisters are selfish and horrible to one another. Also one of them was a ninja turtle. I don't remember which one? I think the purple one? And the writing had colors.
So, anyways, because of this, I am lowering my rating from four stars to three stars.
The first book, Caraval, is alright. It was good, but nothing special. I didn't really care for Scarlett. I definitely didn't care for Tella. I didn't really understand the world.
But this book? This book surprised me. The world building was phenomenal. Things I should have predicted, I didn't. And Tella? I want to be her best friend. I love Tella.
Still don't really care for Scarlett though.
12.15.2021 Update:
This is so good omg. makes me want to scream “Fuck Simon Cowell” at the top of my lungs but this book is totally not inspired by that man and a certain boyband he may or may not have formed on the XFactor on July 23rd, 2010...
Alexa play One Direction
Prereview:
I may or may not have a tattoo that may or may not reference two songs that people may or may not associate with a certain conspiracy theory about a popular boyband and two of it's members that may or may not be the first thing people think of when they read the synopsis of this book
but anyways I am 100% the target audience for this book so I need it asap please and thank you
but I got the tattoos because I like those songs, not because of other reasons implied
Honestly, I'm hate these books and don't understand how these people are all so horny and only think with their genitals and not their head. It's not that hard to keep everything in your pants.
Do they even do any university homework? All signs point to no. but also like same. I should be doing homework right now.
But will I be reading books #4 & #5? Yes. Yes I will.
this is part one of my review. I have a lot to say, and Goodreads doesn't like that, so part two, aka all the things that confuse me about this series, can be found here

but like I also feel bad for him? He spent his entire life trying to impress his dad and brother and someone they can be proud of all for his brother too shoot him in the head at the end of the series. Riko deserved it but he also didn't deserve that,
