I love the series, but I really hated the split time periods in this.
Well done with very few plot hangups, but man those split timelines...
TL;DR: Not a bad book. I recieved a free copy of this novel and was pleasantly surprised. It is usually a gamble with self-published writers and this time Im glad to report that I won.
In essence, this was a good book. The ending needed love. It kind of felt like the writer had too much to write and just hacked the manuscript into multiple sections so that readers could pick up in the next book. Overall, I was impressed with the descriptive pictures that were painted with words and the characters were decently likeable which was a big deal for me as characters can really make or break a book.
The missing star was for the ending and the lack of imaginative dialogue
About as good as low fantasy can get. It's a more adult and more realistic Harry Potter. Jk ain't got anything on ol' Lev
Wonderful execution.
My only critique is that this shirt fellow needs to learn some more story structure lessons. This one was actually pretty good with the arcs and ended appropriately but some of the earlier ones were much worse, ending abruptly in an almost jarring manner.
If you can disregard this transgression, this story is very addictive, and I can't wait for more of the books.
I don't know why I love this series so much, but it fills my cockles with warm feelings. I love the whole irreverent view of fantasy tropes as well as the sci-fi involvement. This is quite literally one of my favorite series
I really wanted to like this book. I seriously did. There was nothing that I could point to directly but for some reason I was not engaged. Honestly I had the same problem with the first book but I had already bought the 2ñd and around the end of the first book there was an increase in intensity that grabbed my interest. Unfortunately after I got about 80 percent through, I honestly found that I didn't care.
Maybe I'll try again at another time
Honestly was pretty surprised that this/these books were as good as I had expected.
So basically the main characters are magical librarians and if you would have told me that I would have bridled at this.
Andrew executes this premise with skill and while the prose is nothing spectacular and the world building borrows heavily from classic tropes (dwarves in mountains, elves in forest, dragons with fire breath) there are some surprising twists to these. I won't mention the specifics here, but it was very easy to love these characters and simple to understand the world.
10/10 will read again
Another good book by Terry. I have only deducted a star due to the kind of odd formatting and my initial feedback to this book.
I can't put a finger on it, but my initial reaction was utter boredom with this book. I kept wanting more spellmongery, however after reading the book over in the events of the series, it has become a solid character arc building novel. Time periods just were a bit weird. I'm still having trouble fitting together when exactly everything takes place until I get to reading the following books and can find little reference points. Either way, in retrospect this book is great, but at the moment of reading it, I was quite distressed.
Oh and the sex. While necessary, I'm sure. I'm just not a sex in books guy. It's not too graphic but I don't know it just irks me a bit.
Easily one of my favorite spellmongery. This book was a sharp contrast away from the previous book and Mancour does so masterfully. I like the lack of overt politics and this is much of the foundation for later books. It also adds some depth that I didn't know I needed. 11/10
Easily one of the best series I've read. Engrossing and complex.
Writing has small errors occasionally but it's self publish so I'm cool with it
This is one of my favorites thus far. Just spooky enough with a good mix of other characters that are deeply lovable. The arc is comprised of a couple within the main story and it was nail-biting at times.
Just a wonderful installment of this series
