This is the second book in a new series by Carolyn Crane and it far surpasses the intro book. Laney is on the run from a crazed ex-husband and hiding out in Bangkok. This is where she runs into the Association's Macmillian, who's on a mission to track down an arms dealer selling off a dangerous weapon. The two form a connection thru their love of words and all the secret meanings behind them.
I don't feel I can write a review that will live up to the examples set up Macmillan, Laney and Carolyn Crane. What I can say it that this book was fantastic. It was a gripping suspense that kept you engaged the entire time. I didn't want to put it down but at the same time I was trying not to read too fast so I could savor the language and the story. This is a great book!
I've been a fan of Rachel Gibson for a while now and really enjoy her books. This is the second book in her new series set in Lovett, Texas. It's a fun read and a really cute story. The chemistry between the straight-laced Marine, Beau and the free-spirited Stella is great from the start but I really like the complicated relationships that both have with there siblings. They seemed very real. If you are a fan of Rachel Gibson, make sure you check this book out.
I finished this book a while ago but needed to sort thru my feelings on it before I could write a review. The book was beautiful and wrenching. It broke my heart and I loved every moment of it. I went into this book decidedly anti-Hemmingway and somehow, despite his treatment of Hadley Richardson, he was humanized to me. He was flawed, childish, complicated, cruel. And he loved her and she him. And Hadley. I am fascinated by her. She is one of my favorite characters in a long while and to know she was real just makes her more compelling.
I've already told many people this. Read this book. It's worth the anger and tears.
I won an advance reader copy of this book. I liked it a lot and will definitely be checking out other titles from this author. The basic story is that Beret Osmundsen goes to Denver to discover the details of her sister, Lillie's murder. While investigating, whe must come to terms with the realization that the sister that she raised was not the sweet, innocent girl that she always saw her as. The characters in the book, especially Beret and Dectective Mick McAuley are very well developed. The inter-play between the two was great. They had great chemistry. This book is by no means a romance but you could feel a current between these two that was intriguing. I enjoyed reading about them and when the book was over I was looking for more. I wanted to know what the characters would be doing after the book was over, always a good sign for a book. I will be recommending this book to all my bookie friends!
Sabrina Jeffries never disappoints! I really enjoyed What the Duke Desires and am excited to read stores on the rest of the Duke's Men. Max and Lisette are both great characters. I liked them both right from the start and they have great chemistry. Max is closed off and haunted by “the family curse” and comes to Lisette's brother's house thinking that her bother is trying to take advantage of him. Lisette wastes no time putting the haughty duke in his place. Together they had great chemistry and were fun to read about. Characters for the future books in the series, Lisette's 2 brothers and Max's cousin are engaging, likable and more than a little stubborn. I can't wait to read about the women that put them all in their place!
Time traveling, Highlanders, Druids...this book has a number of my favorite things but I can only give it 3 stars. It's a cute book and I liked it, but when I compare it to the Karen Marie Moning books along the same line it just falls short. Still it was a fun story and I liked reading it enough that I would probably check out the other books in the series at some point. The main characters, Tara and Duncan, are likeable but both a bit serious. It's Duncan's family that adds a bit of humor to the story and keeps it from being too serious.
This is the first book that I've read by Carolyn Crane but it won't be the last! There is great tension and chemistry between the two main characters, Angel and Cole, right from the start. Cole is brainy and hot but with a tortured past. Angel is an insecure beauty that doesn't feel like she's a good enough person and is tortured by mistakes in her past. They team up to stop a marvelously bad, bad guy and the path is not easy. The story was fast paces and had some tense moments but there were also some fun and funny moments. I can't wait to read the next book in this series!
Sabrina Jeffries never disappoints! This book finally brings us the store of Pierce Waverly, who we first meet in 4 Hellions book. Pierce's story ends up a little darker than I thought it would, especially being a Christmas story. He's got a troubled past and a complicated relationship with his mother. Enter Camilla, his mother's companion and friend, who wants to reunite mother and son. The story is about forgiveness and new beginnings and I really enjoyed it. Seeing mother and son mend their relationship and begin to move past the old hurts was one of the best parts of this book. It's a great Christmas read!
I won this book in a First Reads giveaway. I give it a solid four stars. I would categorize it as more a dystopian novel with a science fiction setting. It was a melding of Adam and Eve meets Cain and Abel meets The Lord of the Rings. Good book.
Disappointed
This is a DNF review. This is my first Kindle First read and I have the book longer than I normally would have in the hopes that it would eventually grab my interest. I read nearly 50% but the book never grabbed me. There's nothing to hate about the book, I just didn't find the characters interesting and the story didn't progress.
I got this book as a free read on Kindle and loved it. The story is cute and funny and doesn't progress in the way that I expected which made me like it even more. The way the characters progressed from teenagers to adults seemed very real to me. This is a great story and I highly recommend it!
