Summer of Night was the first pick in my Horror Book Road Trip around America. Before this I hadn't read a Dan Simmons book and was kind of worried about the 22hr long ride, but it was really worth it. I know it gets compared a lot to IT but at least I finished this one, IT was just a mess wrapped up in a book.

I really enjoyed the characters and was super sad when Dwayne(?) was murdered. My jaw dropped. I was also uncomfortable about the way a grown man explained a naked 12 year old girl, or partially. It just didn't sit right. As for the monsters/creatures there weren't too bad.

Was is scary? No. Creepy? Yes. It reminded me of Hardy Boys but make it adult.

I enjoyed it a good bit. I like the atmosphere around the story. I love the way it was told through investigations, articles, books, etc. I had to make sure I finished it before bed.As for how it compares to the OG movie (I don't remember jack from the 2nd one or the remake which sucks because from how the book ended and in general how the book was told... it could have been a whole series!) is they had very key moments. Somethings were changed, like the ending and everything that lead to it. And they missed out on like a whole part of the book which just... boggles my mind.As for the reason it is a 3.56 and not 4 or higher is because of a couple things. Like how they described Carrie to be on the bigger side but yet on the covers and in the movie is skinny. I have choice words for it. I also rated it lower in terms of horror and fantasy. Carrie is a good thriller/paranormal/supernatural book. Unless you scar so so sssooo easily. Either way I would def recommend this book, it is one of SK's better reads.

I liked the movie but, shocker, nothing like the book. It wasn't bad presay but it was a drag for me.

At then end of the book I was so heartbroken and scared, it really did play on one of my fears.
