I believe I was confused for a majority of the book because I though the stories intertwined with each other but that wasn't the case, I think 3 stories could be grouped together and the other three could be grouped separately together? Then there was one all by its lonesome? I don't know, it was all a bit messy.

I DNFed it but got close to 50% in and so I am doing a review.This is the second book by Hanya and it is concerning what her subject is about... especially with children (boys) and men. I am not going to get deep into it, because it become more rant than anything.The book in itself was boring as hell. I don't care about a horrible man and what he has to say. The only thing that had me going was the stories from the islands but everything else that takes place on that island with the people... hell no. I don't care. Just hell no.

The writing was definitely something new to me. It was poetic writing but with that it explained things to a painful degree. I don't think the story needed all of that and I am not sure if Nour was trying to go that route or just writes like that. It took away from the story and if it was trying to go the horror route it failed. I couldn't focus on the story because of it and if there was horror it was suffocated by the writing style.

This is my second book by him and I like the style of his book. His “I Found” books give me Goosebumps in a way. It isn't REAL SCARY but there are some creepy elements to it. Also just how.. out there the stories are. This story, like the other one, is a quick and easy read all while having your skin crawl. It isn't gorish and yet still gets you feeling a kind of way.

What I liked about the whole story is the simple fact that people outside of asexuality don't seem to understand that people just aren't into the things labeled as “normal”. It was a bit over complicating some things here and there which is why I rated it a bit lower.

The story was pretty good, I did like some of the characters, and I mean pirates are a fun time most of the time. There were some spots where I had to push through but I can't say the story itself is bad.What really bumped it down to a 2 was the 1st person POV. It is a VERY HARD POV to write. I think this view is one to be studied A LOT before being done. I have seen great stories go down to 1 stars because of it.It was choppy and A LOT of telling us things instead of showing us. A small example, “I fixed him with one of my signature scowls and he was quick to clarify.”What does this scowl look like? We can't picture what you see in your own head.Another example, “Angrily, I refused to look his way.” Show us the anger. I hope Madeline can grow in her writing the more she publishes because there isn't a doubt that she can tell good stories.

Cast is still writing. I adored her works back when I was a teen and teens now can enjoy her work. If I read this back when I was in high school I would have eaten this book up. It had everything I liked in the book.I won't lie, it did give me House of Night vibes. That isn't a bad thing either. I just think now, 16ish years later, as a grown woman I don't see an impressive story. It did read younger than the characters were. The writing was lower grade reading, which just makes for a faster read for me. So the book wasn't bad but if you like YA, witches, and romance then this book is for you.

Hannah you are literal shit for this. You could have literally changed that course, made something different. Shown your imagination but you have us this boring ass overdone shit. I will never understand the people giving this over 1 stars.

I will compare what was written in the book.The book started off pretty strong. I will admit I never heard of this religion before, nice to learn something new from a book. I did look up about Zoroastrianism hell and I am not a fan of how things are handled for evil people. There were a lot of WTF moments and I am not sure how I feel about how he handled someone else's religion? I mean how there were gangs and rapes and shit?But besides that I do like the fact that Steven opened a door to something new. He pushed me in a direction I wouldn't have gone to otherwise. I love a book that makes me think and has me going out looking for answers. I was going to give it a 3 but with some thinking and discussion I am happy to round it to a 4.

I guess things that happened then are still happening, maybe not as much. I will be honest I didn't get the point of the book. I suppose a snippet into the boy's life but, I don't know it just wasn't into it that much. I saw no point in two of the major scenes. I know people love it I just don't see why.

The ending was okay. I actually wanted more for a couple characters but I suppose it is fine where we are left off. It was a good book in terms that it wasn't really bad but kind of flat.
