I'm not a huge fan of biographies, art, or music. I didn't even know who Yoko Ono was. But, I read this for a book club and it was such a great experience! David Sheff's writing and story telling kept my entertained and surprised throughout the book. There were so many thoughtful moments and a lot of interesting history with themes of feminism, racism, and family. Highly recommend to anyone!
I really enjoyed the world building in this one and the vampires with more of a dark setting. As much as I loved the competition part, just know there is less focus on the actual contests and more focus on character development outside of the contest. I felt like the romantic scenes could get a little repetitive in the writing and felt kind of cringe but otherwise I loved the rest of the book. I was completely surprised by the ending! It really got me excited to pick up the next book!
This definitely isn't something I would usually read but read it for a book club. I didn't love a lot of the cheesy lines and cheesy things that happened but I did really love the main characters and found myself rooting for them towards the end. If someone likes simple quick cheesy romances, I would highly recommend this one.
Tied as my new favorite book. The writing was so engaging and the story completely unpredictable. Macabre. Horrific. Gruesome. Deep family ties. Found family. Cults. Everything morally gray. It's not something I would recommend for anyone due to so many trigger warnings, but if horror or occult is your thing, this is just addicting.
The first half of the book was very slow paced. There were several interesting characters but many of them only appeared in a scene or two and were never developed further. The last third of the book grabbed more of my attention and seemed to speed up and create a little more intensity in conflicts and mystery. Charles Frazier's writing is beautiful and he appears to effortlessly provide amazing imaging in so many environments and landscapes. As a reader, I could really picture each character and scenery mentioned throughout the story. Overall, I would consider another book by Charles Frazier but I wouldn't quickly offer this as a recommendation for someone else.
If you are looking for your next thriller, this should be it! Isabella de Bruno's newest novel quickly pulled me in at the beginning and had me guessing until the end. There were so many sub plots and twists that I just couldn't put it down! This book is full of dramatic turns in relationships, spicy scenes, romance with lots of will they won't they, dangerous and reckless behavior, love triangles, and found family. Although this is multiple POV, the FMC had dissociative identity disorder (multiple personalities) which creates so many layers to the story. This one would definitely bring anyone out of a reading slump!
