Woo-hoo! I finished a scary book JUST in time for Halloween!
This was a solid 3 Stars for me. I really liked the first half of the book. The second half was okay, but it really lost its creep factor. The ending seemed like a cheap way out and didn't really make much sense.
Pro's:
-I connected with the characters. They each had an individual personality and were well written.
-There was shock factor and creep factor. (There's this part with a barbie doll that I was seriously like WHAT.THE.FUCK?!)
-I felt that the story line was original. I personally haven't read anything quite like this one before.
-Even though it's close to 400 pages, it was very fast-paced.
-It brought out my emotions & I definitely wasn't expecting it!
Con's:
-Even though it was creepy, it wasn't scary. I like for my horror books to make me uneasy and freak me out.
-The ending confused me. After Julian kills himself, all he has to do is stretch as far as he can and it completely gets rid of this evilness? Yeah...no. Also, they never said what had happened to the grandpa. It felt rushed and just seemed like the author took the easy way out.
-I didn't care for the backstory of the “entity” at all. It was boring to me, and just made me lose interest.
Overall, this wasn't a bad book. I didn't hate it, but I also didn't love it either. I would be willing to check out more books by this author.
3.5 Stars
Damn, I thought I was never gonna finish this book. I have read books bigger than this one, but this shit put me in a reading slump for about a month.
With that being said...I did not hate the book, not even close. I actually really liked it, but there are a couple of reasons that it is not a 5 star book for me.
1. If you've read the first 2 books, you know these characters. Hardin is mentally and verbally abusive. For that, I knocked off a star. I don't want anyone feeling like it's ok to be treated this way.
2. It's pretty repetitive in the sense that all they do is fight. I honestly just want 75% of the book to be a happy and loving relationship. I understand that couples fight, but it's so dramatic. I felt like every other fucking page had them in a hellacious fight. This is why I was in a reading slump, I needed to rid myself of the constant drama that this series was dishing out.
3. There honestly was a lot that could have been cut out of the book. I love a good, long book like anybody else but some shit was just pointless.
This is definitely my least favorite book in the series, but I still loved it in my own way. There were good parts, parts that made me fall in love with the characters, parts that made me angry, parts that made me cry. To me, if a book can make me feel all these emotions, it's a good book.
I do have to say that I am half-way through the next book and I'm loving that one so far.
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I didn't really know much about it when I dove into it, a lot of people have compared it to the After series by Anna Todd...in which I have to strongly disagree. Travis was a great H, whereas Hardin was a selfish douche who verbally abused his h. Anywho, enough about that series, I have reviews on those if you're curious enough.
This is the story of Travis ‘Maddog' Maddox, who is a tattoo covered ladies man that spends his time beating the hell out of people in an underground college fight ring. Then there's Abby Abernathy, a “good girl” that's starting her first semester of college far away from her hometown. Abby has secrets that she's trying to get away from.
I loved Travis so much, he was damn near perfect. I had a few faults with him but all-in-all he was amazing. Abby on the other hand was a horrible bitch. She's definitely not my least favorite h ever, but she's probably in the top 10. She treated Travis like shit and then wanted to get mad when he tried to move on after they broke up.
I personally couldn't see what was so special about her.
This book could be a bit cheesy at times, but it was also very sweet. I can't wait to get my hands on the next one.
4-Stars
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a quick read & if I would've had more time, I definitely could've read it in a day.
I didn't expect this book to be so...clean. & that's my fault cause I read books that leave very little to the imagination. I mean, there weren't even any curse words for fucks sake!! That didn't sway me though, I have read a lot of books which do the same thing, it just caught me by surprise.
Basically this book is about Theresa & Alessandro whom were thrown together in an arranged marriage. Theresa absolutely adored Alessandro & quickly fell in love with him, but he didn't feel the same way. Finally, Theresa gets a back bone after almost 2 years & tells Alessandro that she wants a divorce. Theresa didn't know that there were terms & conditions to her arranged marriage, but she quickly finds out what those are & a divorce won't be so easy. Alessandro finally finds his heart & realizes that he's falling in love with Theresa, but it seems like it's too late.
When Alessandro finally got his head outta his ass, he was filled with remorse about the way that he had treated Theresa, & she made him pay for it. The whole book was basically him trying to prove his love and newfound commitment to her & I LOVED it!!
Some things I didn't like:
-I felt as though exclamation points were used wrongly in this book. IDK, maybe I'm just weird about them, but to me they either mean angry or excited & at times the author put these exclamation points in and it just seemed too “chipper” & I really don't think that's what she was going for.
-USE CONTRACTIONS DAMNIT!! I can't stand when authors write too proper, to me it takes me out of the story because people don't f-ing talk like that. Now if I'm reading a historical novel, sure! But this book is based in present day, we're very lazy with our language & if we can shorten it we will.
But, I'm just being nit-picky. This really was a good book & I'm already on to the 2nd in the series!
