I saw this recommended somewhere but it mentioned the FMC was insufferable... I personally loved it tbh. Like do I want to interact with someone like that? No, absolutely not. But it was a very distinct and consistent character, and I absolutely loved the way she was ‘handled' (is one way to put it lol). I think I just love FMCs that are very emotionally stunted, like completely incapable of just letting someone in and having it mean something. So this was perfect for me. Just deducted a point because I do wish the overall pacing was handled a bit differently.
This was phenomenal!!!! I cannot believe it took me this long to read this series! But also its wild to be how this is the same author who wrote the hollow places... It was a bit slow at first and I always struggle getting into a new world by it was so worth it and then sped up. So adorable and funny and I can't wait for more!
I gotta say I'm struggling a little bit. I'm going to give this 4 stars because I think overall this series has been phenomenal, but thinking back of the first books this just didn't feel the same. I LOVED the story but the relationships were not handled the way I had hoped. It felt too quick at the end but I also don't think I would've survived a cliffhanger halfway through this. I think the characters deserved more, but I still love it with all my heart. I just can't give this 5 stars because I feel sad now, maybe upon rereading it will be better, but I just think it lost some of what made it so special in terms of characters. The story I have no problems with!!
Coming back to edit this a couple days later.
I think I really liked the book itself but I feel like it did not do the series justice, so many things were forgotten about and played no role anymore. Also some of the reveals would have had much more impact if we had more time learning about those involved.
I want to start this review off by stating that I absolutely hate age gap romance books/movies/relationships. I genuinely think they're never healthy unless both parties are 35+. However.... I don't take books too seriously anyway and my god this was so well written! It was hilarious and the cast of characters is just so good. I loved their romance and even though the age gap is brought up A LOT, I just ignored it and found the jokes around it funny. Can't wait for more books from Ali!
I genuinely feel like I have personally gone through all the trials of this series and the torture sessions. I forgot what book I was reading, I was enjoying myself and kicking my feet at how cute it all was. And then it turned around and slapped me in the face with it... I'm gonna need a minute to recover from this.
Holy shit..... I have to be honest, I don't think I've ever been this rattled by a book. My opinion on it went up and down a lot in the first half. It was going a bit too fast that their connection was unbelievable, though I did like th pacing of the story, I wish it showed them interact a bit more. However, it really took a turn around halfway when the MCs showed flaws. And you might think, that's weird, but omg it was so refreshing to see a character who is true to themselves and has flaws and doesn't just magically fix themselves. And don't even get me started on the last 40% of the book. I don't think I will ever recover. Though I will pride myself on actually figuring out some mysteries for once in my life!
