The First Witch of Boston: A Novel

Wrote a review for

I had such a hard time getting though this. Don't get me wrong, the book is well written and the story is one that deserves to be told. Nonetheless, I couldn't wait for it to be over. I'm not unfamiliar with the witch trials and yet I was outraged the whole time. In this specific story, a woman died not because the Puritans were scared of the devil but because her husband didn't listen to her. Thomas had several opportunities to decline the widow's invitations and to go live somewhere else and yet he did not. Not until Maggie was already dead, that is. My disdain for him is huge despite the arc of redemption the author tried to give him.
