I'm not smart enough to appreciate this.

With some occasional five-star sentences.

If the politics had been just a little more developed and the fighting action just a little better, this would be no worse than plenty of the cheesy sci fi I've read.

Far too many typos in this edition. Although I did enjoy the scene in which Phillip passionately touched his lips to a woman's car.

Writing and characterization is pretty shoddy. And the handful of times where the author drops in modern slang really warrants a one-star review. But the story is kind of fun, I guess.

Is this thing YA, or is this how books are written now?

Being gay is complicated.

Guess you had to be there.

Listened to the audio. Hated when he did the little trumpet fanfares.

Sam Shepard's reading was terrible.

Did the audiobook. Read by the author. Someone give her some coffee.

I have some complaints, but it left me with a four star kind of feeling.

The City and the Four Stars

I like how I never listen to audiobooks, and the one I chose contains extensive shaming of me for doing so.

No, really, that was a part I liked. The parts I didn't like were other parts.

How many times do I have to read about people having sour breath? Someone get this book a mint.

The angsty story where Sisko was all horny was annoying enough that I deducted a star.

Not bad if you ignore the terrible aliens with their terrible names.

Some shameless exclamation marks usage.

Seems like basic facts about the characters could be kept consistent over the span of 47 pages.

I am surprised by how much I disliked it. So bloated with whimsy and forced fanciful wonder that all charm and meaning are choked to death.

I just barely liked it. The imagination behind it is strong, in a Clive Barker, Neil Gaiman kind of way.

The writing is terrible. I thought it must be the result of a bad translator, but I guess not.

I'm a bit disappointed that it's another “making dreams/fears real” kind of story. I'm kind of sick of those. A lot of this could've come from a Celestial Toymaker story with no changes.

I'm very upset right now. I didn't realize how many people took the ending of Candide at face value. That's a fundamental misreading, and is disastrous for the theme and the them of any work based on it.

But all the Easter eggs of Rush lyrics were fun.

This thing is wild. Like Palahniuk by way of hentai, homegrown from Hardy Boys seeds with jazz fertilizer.

Boring and unpleasant, and full of typos.

Didn't really need to see Darkman turned into a self-aware Batman knockoff encountering an urbanized Oliver Twist.

It didn't even use Darkman's gimmick well.
