April 2023: I've read this book and re-read it twice now. I was in a reading slump where nothing new I tried was working so I decided to start one of my all-time favorites. This novel has it all. Family drama, a love triangle, family secrets, lies, deception, fighting over land, regret, more love stories, and did I mention all the drama? Percy and Mary are two of my favorite characters ever. I fell for them the first time I read this novel and I've yet to find an author who writes as beautifully as Leila Meacham. I miss her novels terribly ❤️
March 2010: A Wonderful Saga that I did not want to end. I loved it so much that I started out listening on my iPod, then had to check out the hardcover book to finish. Page after page of drama. The story begins in 1985, the “present time” then moves backward to the 1930's to a cotton plantation with a family curse. Everything a southern saga should be - love of the land, money, power, and family secrets. A great read from start to finish!
This book was even better than the first one!! I will admit that I was beginning to really like Jacob, such a sweet guy, but no Edward. I think we all prefer the bad guy over the good one :) Edward is definately my favorite character!!! Stephanie Meyer is awesome - she writes stories that make you feel like you are actually a part of them! Whether you are still in high school or still young enough to remember what high school was like, you will love this book!!
This book was so great!! I would give it 10 stars if that was an option!! Edward and Bella are wonderful characters and I fell in love with them immediately. I've never been able to read an entire series, just because I don't have time to finish them, but for this one, I am making time. I don't normally read vampire fiction, as you can see from my other books, but I LOVED THIS BOOK!! I can't say that enough. If you've been thinking about reading it or you are putting it off for some reason, grab a copy and read it!! You won't be disappointed...
This book was weird to say the least. I am a Christian and fear that while I understand the point the author was trying to express, non-Christians may consider this book to be fact rather than fiction. I read the reviews on amazon and it sounded great, so I chose it for my Inspirational Reader's Group, who also rated it 2 stars. It just wasn't for us. It makes you think, but it would also be very confusing for someone just starting their walk with Christ.
This was a very clever novel. Blending a podcast amongst friends with real life situations was genious. I found myself sucked in to the story and the characters. I don't want to spoil it for anyone but I found myself yelling at some of the characters out of concern. It starst of with Joy and her husband Xander missing. Benny, her best friend quickly becomes the primary suspect in their disapperance. Benny must look for clues in order to save not just them, but also himself. In order to do that he must go through hours of podcast materials looking for clues Joy might have left for him. And then their's her stalker. Someone who's been a “super fan” of both Joy and the podcase. Did he kidnap Joy? I found it very appealing and just the right about of buildup and the author managed to throw me off track a few times.
