I really like this one! I can't believe that I even forgot that I've read this once. Unlike before, the more I read the more I appreciate the art.
Mother's Day and Father's Day issues were depressing and I like how Bruce questioning his father's action of helping Falcone's son when he was doing the same thing with all the other criminals. Especially Joker. The Irony.
I also like the twist at the end where it was revealed that Gilda was the Holiday. And her motivation albeit too simple gave me goosebumbs. Though the ending did make me scratched my head.
I don't understand why Harvey said there were two killers when infact it was three. Or so it seemed.
Yeah the ending doesn't really make sense when you think about it. But I still enjoyed it!
P/s: I read on reddit that Gilda only deluded herself that it was Harvey doing the killing—to finish it all and be with her, and she refused to believe that Harvey was gone—when infact it was Alberto. He orchestrated his own murder and took over the rest of the murders to spite his father and to become something that cannot be ignored. Contrary to Batman's statement, Harvey didn't consider himself the Holiday because he was the Two-face. Killing Falcon was just something the needed to be done. I'll take this interpretation.
As the tittle, the story depicted Batman's first year and James Gordon's first year as Lieutenant in Gotham. Batman met Selina Kyle here. The GPD was fulled of corrupted officers.
As honest Gordon was towards his job, his infidelity made so human in this story. (Kinda felt bad saying that)
Almost every one in power wanted Batman dead. The scene in the building was very epic! And Batman saved a cat.
Reread
How could I give this book 3 stars before?!!
....
It was my first time reading this type if books where we followed the protagonist from when he was young. The slow-paced story, formal writing style, I'd have to say i struggled i bit throughout the book. But as the story goes I've come to like Fitz, the bastard, our protagonist training to become a royal assassin. I was under different impression of the type of assassin he was training to be and expected a bit of action here and there. Nevertheless, i quite enjoy the book.
I admitted that i was having a hard time getting into the story in the first quarter of the book. But then, the interaction between Howl and Sophie escalated and baamm just like that i was hooked. Howl was such a drama queen and Sophie was just like, are you done yet. I love them!
There were lot of funny times and moments i found very endearing that made me felt in love with the characters.
In this book we were introduced a new character, Will that very different from Lyra. He was forced to grow up faster that other kids because of his situation. Where Lyra was mischievous and impulsive at times, Will was levelheaded and calm. And Lyra saw Iorik Byrnison within Will that made her trust him wholeheartedly.
I was very surprised how attached I was to Will's character.
Human vs Authority. Kinda mind blowing.
I watched Golden Compass long ago and remembered loving the movie. It ended in way that there would be a sequel so I searched it up. And turned out the movie was a flop—how sad I was when I learned this. And it was based on a book series. One thing that made me loved the movie so much was the bond between human and their daemon. There was just something about their deep connection that touched something inside me.
But for some reason I've been putting off reading the series because I was afraid I'd end up disliking them. LOL how wrong I was.
But honestly, it took times for me to get used to the writing style, but the second half of the book grabbed my attention just like that. And Lyra dear! She made me fell in love with this book! She is so witty and smart! Lord Asriel surprised me the most. I didn't expect him to be like THAT. Asshole. Oh, and Iorek Byrnison! My polar bear! I love him and lyra.
I know the trilogy was a critic towards religion, but I can't say much about it cause I don't really understand it fully.
This book did not went the way I thought it would.
The reason the monster came to Coner, the stories it told, the struggles within Coner... they really opened my eyes to the suffering of those whose left behind, and the strength that the ones that would leave have to muster in front of their loved ones. Heartbreaking.
I did not expect to love this as much as I do. I might even like it more the the Mistborn trilogy! I really appreciate the way Brandon brought up these characters. And all the twists, I really did not see it coming—or I might just be too dumb to pick up the pieces. Vasher the mysterious man, wasn't sure what to make of him. He so grumpy we don't really see his intentions until later in the book. And Nightblood! I love this sword. And a bit terrified. Siri, she very cute and the perfect match for Susebron. They just meant for each other. I hated Vivenna in the first half. But then, they way she grew from her former self was marvellous. Siri and Vivenna contrasted each other in the beginning and even in the end. And seeing them learning to become the person they are now makes me happy. Lightsong!!!! He made me smile so much. Urghhh thinking about him makes me tearing up. He convinced himself that he's not a god or a good one at that, but the others saw the opposite. His every words was funny. His interactions between Llarimar were hilarious. Then that happened. Well, it has been emphasised many times about this ‘god giving up their life to heal or save one person' thing, but I didn't expect that to be his fate! Oh man... I can't 😫. Lightsong... I love you man.
Bottom line, I'd give this book 10/5.
It felt like going on a long, arduous journey when I read this book. It was a slow book occasionally with big actions and unexpected twists. But all that leading up to the most unpredicted yet fitting ending. A bittersweet one.
It was such a wonderful read. The suffering each characters had to bear... thinking about it clenched my heart.
I am in love with this book. Everything about this book is just... ughhh perfect!
I love how Olive is the ‘gelabah' type and when Adam was teasing her, she kept falling for it. She so cute!!! And Adam Carlsen. Do I need to say more?! Man was perfection! He complemented Olive very well. Their romance was just on whole different level and made me felt weird things. I love it I love it I love it!!! 100/5 ⭐️
This is the types of book that will constantly be on my mind. And from the snippet of her next book, Ali Hazelwood might be my new favourite author for romance. I am not kidding.
First of all, that poop 💩 thing was hilarious. Clever way to stop revering your crush.
Second of all, Sal's father was the cutest!!!! His reactions towards Kulti, hahahaha. Her father really stole the spotlight.
Next, I think I prefer Winnipeg more than this one, but Kulti still held the expectations.
The things I like:
The way Kulti one-sidedly said Sal as his best friend, the way he fell for her first, the way he still treated everyone else like dirt except her... and that moment when Sal realised she still in love with him. That confession she made about her being a fangirl, hahahahah. So cute.
I never really had any luck when it comes to romance book. I really wanted to try reading romance and I thought, why not read books about the type of guys that I like—silent and reserved.
When I searched for silent hero this book came at the top. Though Aiden was definitely not the type of silent that I'd go for, I had zero regrets reading this. That was understatement. I freaking LOVE this book!
Their interactions were so precious. Especially when he tried to make up for his mistakes. Both of them were very similar to each other. The thing that I like the most about them is how they both used the people they hate as a benchmark to how-not-to-be.
And the epilogue was so sweet! Ughh my heart!!
“In the future . . . if by some miracle you ever find yourself in the position to fall in love again . . . fall in love with me.”
I-I... that was probably one of the most beautiful written words I've ever read.
Sometimes, I found myself thinking about this book randomly and my heart hurt. The book frustrated me so much but it made you think about all the women who went through what Lily experienced. And thinking about it just hurt...
Damn... that was definitely not what I expected.
Every time a bit of information about the so-called Hero of Ages was revealed, the curiosity was killing me. And then, when the real situation unraveled, it left me speechless. That twist!! That was so clever!
The things about Terris religion, Hero of Ages and the mist spirit...👏🏻
I like the first book more then the second one.
It felt so nostalgic reading this. Alice's wild imagination led her to the wonderland, just like how most children do. I used to dream a lot of adventurous stuff, with my own dream friends. Often time they were so ridiculous just like how Alice's are and remembered feeling so happy when i woke up.
This book made me remember those times.
