More enjoyable time spent with Lord Peter Whimsey, Bunter, Parker and, new to the series, Miss Climpsen. Climpsen is a very spritely and adventurous detective in her own right who does much of the leg work for Peter. All the characters display their usual charm and witty dialoge that make Sayers such an enjoyable read.
An Unnatural Death shows some excellent pacing as the book dramically escalates toward it's final scene. this is a marked improvement over the previous book in the series which featured a somewhat cumbersome and unsatisfing ending.
Daria Sockey's The Everyday Catholics Guide to the Liturgy of the Hours, is a much needed entry in an otherwise barren landscape of “How to pray the Divine Office” guides. There is only one other How-To book that I'm aware of and that is “the Divine Office for Dodos” book. I've read both and suggest that newcomers start with to the The Everyday Catholics Guide to the Liturgy of the Hours as it does a better job of giving the big picture view and structure of each office. More than being just a How-To guide though, Daria goes into the history and meaning of the Office and it's prayers making this a worthwhile read for those already schooled in this liturgical prayer. Highly recommended!
In this compact and straight forward book, Peter Kreeft does an excellent job of articulating the “Why” and to an extent the “How” of prayer. The longest chapter in the book is dedicated to the Shortest prayer there is, The name JESUS. It alone is worth the price of admission. Happened to read this book right after Thomas Merton's “New Seeds of Contemplation” and found them to compliment each other very nicely.
